Dream Child

July 13, 2001

Long ago dream child,
terrified,
running for help and falling
before father and mother,
found she could utter
no sound.
Could not reach them where they stood,
smiling, genuinely puzzled
by her anguish.

You ask me how I’m doing
and I try to craft
a link between us,
lengthy worded explanations,
but can find no portal entry
compatible with my circuitry.
Rendered speechless I flail
as if in dream and
terrified to feel so lost and alone,
standing in the company of family and friends.
